Important things to know about DEXA scanning

- You cannot be scanned if:

- You might be pregnant

- You have had:

    • A thyroid, heart, lung or liver scan in the last 2 days
    • A pill or injection to provide contrast for an x-ray or MRI in the last 2 days
    • An upper GI series in the last 7 days
    • A barium enema in the last 7 days

- It is much easier if you wear clothes without any metal (zippers, buttons, underwire bra, etc.) like stretch pants and t-shirts. If your clothes have any metal or plastic on them, you will need to change into scrubs.
