The National Center for Policy Research (CPR) for Women & Families, a nonprofit think tank and advocacy organization dedicated to improving the lives of women and children has the following openings:

Director of Policy Research/ Staff Scientist

Special Assistance (20-30 hrs/week)
Responsible, well-organized, and dedicated individual needed to assist the Executive Director with a variety of tasks and projects. The successful candidate will have a proven record of handling multiple tasks, and a strong commitment to promoting the health and well-being of women and families. Must have a college degree, be extremely well-organized, excellent communication skills, and have relevant work experience. This position includes clerical and administrative tasks as well as assisting with gathering research information and writing web articles. Proofreading skills are a plus. The salary for this entry-level postion starts at $12/hour with excellent benefits, and the opportunity for creativity, growth, and promotion.



Intership and Fellowships

Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall Internships are available for undergraduate or graduate students or recent graduates who are available at least 12 hours/wk for at least 3 months. Fellowships are available for college graduates who can work at least half-time for at least six months.

Learn about the Washington policy scene and make a difference for women and families! Internships and fellowships offer policy experience on a wide range of topics. We work closely with the media, policy makers, researchers from around the country, and other national organizations. Our interns and fellows work on various projects, and their activities include:

  • Gathering information: from the Internet, articles, and contacting researchers and other experts to ask for information,

  • writing: drafting articles, fact sheets and briefing materials, assisting with our web site,

  • public policy: attending and assisting with briefings on Capitol Hill, and attending policy-oriented meetings with representatives from other non-profit think tanks and advocacy organizations, and possibly meeting with Members of Congress and their staff.
Topics include violence in homes and schools, breast cancer and other women's health issues, women's self-image (including breast implants, other plastic surgery, eating disorders, weight control), coping with blindness and other disabilities, work/family, children's health and well-being, the transition from girlhood to womanhood, toxic exposures, and other issues.

If you're interested in an internship, please send a resume and cover letter describing the dates and time commitment (hrs/week) you are available. As with most non-profits, internship stipends are rarely available, so please describe any financial requirements. We are currently accepting applications for internships for Winter, Spring, and Summer 2004.

Fellowship positions require a college degree, at least a 6-month and 20 hrs/wk commitment, excellent writing skills, and relevant experience.
